“LIMINAL BLACKNESS” (a short film) is a meditation on one Black family. 5 Minutes.

 

​“BLOODLINES OF THE SLAVE TRADE” (feature documentary) explores the divergent inheritance of two descendants of notorious slave traders in the 1830’s; one descendent is white and the other is Black. Their stories reflect the racial divide that permeates this country. 74 Minutes.​

 

Film screening followed by post-show talkback featuring filmmakers Judy Tate and Markie Hancock.

Talkback moderated by actor/writer/director Kim Sykes.

JUDY TATE

Judy Tate is a four-time Emmy Award-winning writer, playwright, producer, and educator. Her television writing includes Beyond the Gates, Another World, Days of Our Lives, and As the World Turns. With a distinguished career spanning television, theater, and education, she has made significant contributions to storytelling and the arts. Her work often focuses on amplifying underrepresented voices and fostering community dialogue. She teaches Playwriting and Theatre Arts at New York University and is a Senior Teaching Artist at the Manhattan Theatre Club. Tate is also the Producing Artistic Director of ASP Arts Collective, a theatrical response to revisionism in our national conversation around enslavement and its aftermath. asylum-productions.org

MARKIE HANCOCK

Markie Hancock has been a documentary filmmaker for over 25 years. Her projects are primarily collaborations with non-profits and educational organizations. Her independent projects include seven feature-length documentaries and over 10 documentary shorts. Hancock’s work has always focused on social justice issues while being rooted in the personal story. hancockproductions.com​​

KIM SYKES

Kim Sykes is an actor, published writer, screenwriter and playwright. A member of the Actors Center Workshop and Black Bird Writers Collective. She has written three full-length plays, two screenplays, a television series and many short stories, two of which have been published by Akashic books. One of them, Arrivederci Aldo was selected by Nikki Giovanni for the Best African American Fiction of 2010. A stage production of IN A ROUNDABOUT WAY, written and directed by Kim Sykes. Funded by the New York State Council for the Arts. As an actor, she has guest starred on Homeland and recurred on The Affair for Showtime and as Judge Foley on BULL for CBS-TV. kimsykes.com​​
